    how do I stop him??

I know this guy with an 01 or 02 gpr1200, he says it runs rough, he has it apart and is replacing things here and there, he is now ordering a control module(computer).. he said he will sell the ski if that doesn't fix the roughness. I believe he has a bad cylinder and I want the ski(my most wanted ski). problem is as he spends money, he will try to recover what he's put out. how do I stop him from spending more so that I can buy it at a good, low price? also what's it worth?

If you want the ski offer to do the the work to fix the ski for a reasonable fee per HR. If you know enough about them. Then if you find something major wrong with it he may want to sell it then you just deduct your labor from the price. If he wants to fix it then fix it either way you still have to do the work and help a friend. That way he stops sinking money in something he knows nothing about.

im leaning towards the dead cylinder, but he's a "mechanic" and knows what he's doing. i'm going to play dumb and not let him know what I know, maybe he'll sell it to first sucker(me) he sees.

no, you dont understand, I've told him already what it could be, but he insists that the cylinders are fine because he's been around engines all his life. he has no knowledge of computer control engines or 2 strokes for that matter, so why would he attack the engine control and not the mechanical parts first. hey he said he'd sell it to me, if that wasn't it, and that I could then test whatever I wanted.

Its cool...you just came off as sounding sneeky..... If the engine has spark ,air and fuel at the right time it has to run....do a comp check first , hopefully you have over 100 psi. Make sure plugs are sparking. look down plug hole and see if slugs are dry or wet.
you may need to do the carbs which is a hassle but necessary...good luck

well I guess he figured it out, seems the rear cylinder needs rebuilt. I wonder why he decided to inspect it, hmmmm! anyway I wont be getting this one. I'll just keep looking.
