    Kawasaki STXR Mods

    Hi,

Can someone give me a list of good mods for a Kawasaki STXR 2003 Model?
Upto now I have R and D rideplate, thinking of getting a new intake grate, sponsons and new impellor.
Also can someone give me an explanation of how the jet ski engine works?

    Cheers Phil.

The simple mods are the best (I've done my fair share). Here is my 5 Star ratings (5 stars must do, 1 star don't bother) for a rec rider using the ski for wave jumping

Seat (Jettrim) more grippy, easier to ride in the rough *****
    New Green Hydroturf *****
Raised bars, like UMI, with pro-taper handle bars *****
Plate and Grate (for rough water) ****
Solas Impeller (not really worth it if your prop is good) *
Beach House Sponsons (replaced because stock ones broke) ***
    Stinger Mod **
Cut Heads from 115 Stock to 125 PSI **
ADA Heads from 115 Stock to 150 PSI ***
    44mm Carbs ***
V-Force Reeds **** (you need to replace them once a year so it's really **)

The STX-R is VERY good out of the box. I must mod, so I did this. Would I do the 1-3 star stuff again? No. Am I happy with what I've done? Yes, but I'd be happy with stock knowing what I know now.

The big item is the carbs. If your CV's are in good shape (ski starts easy) I'd probably leave them on. The 44's have better mid (@ 3000rpm+), but CV's are better down low/take off (where I'm at anyway).

    Hope this helps.

Yea I looked at his thread it is really good and so much!
Thanks for the ratings, I think I will get R and D Rideplate (already got off here), intake grate, sponsons and maybe impeller.

Do jet skis only have one impellor? and do they have a pump aswell?
Also what is the difference between a flame arrestor and air filter?
I am after the STXR stickers as mine had a paint job and cant get them anywhere do you kno where I can get them?
Sorry for questions but I am new to this.

    Cheers Phil.

The impeller sits within the "pump". If you go to the parts finder on greenhulk, choose OEM parts and you will be able to see the pictures.

    Check here for stickers: http://www.exoticsigns.com/

Flame Arrestor is the air filter (just a mesh)

Why do you want to change the prop?

In this order for a good reliable stxr that will kick but.,....

15F exit and steering nozzle 82mm verses 80 mm with or with out stock prop.
Heads @ 150psi but not stock cut heads. Try for @.055 ths squish.
Stinger mod.... set at roughly 3000 rpm but can be set to your desire.

If you want a noticeable improvement get a set of 46mm carbs with the right components to go with them. Toomanytoys unfortunately has shown what tye of problems can be had with some types of after market parts but not everyone has those problems and some do. It is all about how comfortable you are with tunning and wrenching.

In a few of my videos you can see how well the ski ran with ...carbs heads and stinger and nozzle. That was it. nothing to crazy just tuned very well and all on 91 octane. Later I did port it but still ran 91.

Great ski wish I still had it.

Johny I dont think it was the part that tomanytoys had it was the guy he bought them from. Also it had to do will little or no tunning knowledge of the 1200 with SBN's. you taought me alot on the tunning on this motor. I have been running my 44 sbn's and love what the carbs did to my boat over the stock carbs. All I can say is you will find a new powerband in the motor with anything other than the stock carbs. I am taking my ultra motor and exhaust system and putting it into a STX-R hull and hope to have good things to say about it once it is done. I am sure i will.

I think that's a good point captain. Tuning takes time and if you don't start off somewhere close it is a major pain in the backside (as I found out). Without Jonny things would have been way harder.

I think anyone looking to do this needs to understand that changing the carbs is not a small task. It's not hard, but you need to do your homework.

The other thing I noticed is that you need to do all or nothing. Each part makes a small difference, but once you add everything it does feel stronger. It's not like adding carbs, heads, exhaust to a Standup or Blaster (700cc), that's night and day, mods to the STX-R just make it better IMO.

Thanks for replies guys, Jonny I have read your thread I was reading it for hours it is really good!
I do want to mod my ski but I am new to this so need to learn what all the parts do etc. I have had nice cars but never modded them just drove them fast! So I am still learning how engines and how jet propulsion works on skis so you will have to bear with me. What is a stinger mod?
