thanks for the info. I cant decide on the '09 Yamaha VX Del or the '08 Kawa STX15F - i am new to riding so either would be good, i have opportunity on both on a local deal and could go either way.

Both are good skis. Kawasaki will give you more punch/power. I believe the 15f will burn around 12 gph at WOT. The Kawasaki will handle better in the rough. I/ve owned both. The Yamaha is pretty much bullet proof. You are looking at about 52mph vs. 60-61mph in top end speed. Also, look at the engine bay on both and look for salt deposits (a good indication of whether it was maintained or not). Also look at the oil (looking for water). Maybe have the skis checked out by a shop before you lay down the money. Just a thought.

Great info,, i will be in rougher water occasionally in Gulf Shores (Saltwater). does one do better than the other with dependability in saltwater. I of course will flush properly after each use, even in fresh.... Hey now...

I had a 2007 Yamaha VX that I just sold. It was the deluxe version so it had reverse. I owned it since it had 29 hours and sold it with close to 300 of all ocean riding. You definitely get beat up more then on the larger FX hull but it was a great ski. It had never left me stranded, cranked on the first time and ate as much gas as a honda civic. If you are looking for dependability I would skip the kawasaki and go straight to yamaha. There is a reason the rental companies put 2000-3000-4000 hours on them without rebuilds of any kind. They just wont die. Honestly, why dont you buy a used FX HO? They still get amazing GPH numbers and are still decently priced. What is your location? How much are they asking for the VX and what kind of hours? Is it deluxe, cruiser or sport?

That is a great price for the VX. An 09 with 11hrs for 5k is a steal. I sold mine for $4300 without a trailer and close to 300hrs, it was an 07. I'm just not a fan of kawasaki, never have been. This is my third yamaha waverunner and I have nothing bad to say about them. Reliability has been top notch. 50MPH feels pretty fast on the water if what you are buying it for is to cruise around and have fun. If you are into speed and racing then you will want something with a bit more. The yamaha is a great design, large rear platform makes climbing on easy. Reverse is great on those skis also. The stability is there, I can stand on one side and it wont tip, 230lbs. Great choice to pick up a waverunner, you will love owning one. If you don't mind the drive, you should look into our area as well, there are tons of jet skis for sale in florida right now. But for $5000, I would jump on that VX deal.

Kawasaki doesn't use anodes (i think). Possibly more prone to corrosion. Go with the Yami. Like stang said, if you can find an fx140 or fx160, that would be even better in the rough.
