    VW 1.8T mileage

Hey guys, sorry for starting another thread topic. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with the VW 1.8T engine. My dad and I went car searching today and found an extremely clean 2000 Passat with the 1.8T engine. The car is a 1 owner car, and looks brand new. The problem is that it has 230K miles on it. We have the carfax for it and from what I saw it looked like just normal maintenance like tires, oil etc. that was done to it. Anyone know what kind of reliability comes with this engine?

If your going to get a V Dub with 250k on it...make it a Diesel. 250K on a diesel is like having 75k on a gas motor

My sisterinlaw had a 2001 Passat wagon and it was a huge POS.
In the shop all the time. It's also one of those cars were every little part costs you and arm and a leg. Just like the Eclipse, it's also a girls car

ANY car really is going to be a 'girl' car other then maybe a Grand Prix or something. My limit is around 4K. The Passat is a really nice car. I want a car that is comfortable, gets decent gas mileage and has room for passangers.

Try an Accord, Maxima, Impala, maybe find a Chevy Colorado with 4x4?

Yep. TDI. And this one was salvaged too. An actual light hit. No airbags deployed. I'm just waiting for the hood to be repainted and then its good to go.

Yep, definitely a girls car. But thats why the girls drive it. Just bought it for a toy for them.

The wife had a 1.8T in college, back in the early '00 time frame, she only had it for the first 50K, but that little Bi^tch would run... fun little car.

Great gas mileage, if I remember like 32mpg on the highway

pretty much any nissan maxima is going to be a good bet, the 3.0 or even the later one's won many engine awards...

Of course Honda and Toyota are going to be a good choice. All hold their values well.

Well I have had several 1.8t jettas and gti's stock n not stock. They are great cars, a tad pricey to fix if u have to take to shop. My current work car is an 02 jetta 1.8t that smokes most cars on the road. Far from stock. They are not cheap to build up but there's nothing like taking a v8s lunch. You have to run premium gas in them, and should run full synthetic oil. Stock mileage is around 28 mpg. They are a fun peppy car and great German engineering. 4k for that many miles is insane. I paid 7000 for mine slightly modified great condition with 56,000 miles.
