    fuel gauge sending unit removal

I have a 98 GSXL, that has been a great boat, and this last summer the fuel gauge stopped working. Its not showing any bars, not even lighting up at all. The guy that works on mine said that its the sending unit in the tank. I have spent several weekends trying to get it out. I just cant seem to get the tank into a position to get the sending unit out. Is there a trick to this I dont know about?

    Thx in advance

PS I did search but I got back so many results I couldnt find what I was looking for

I believe if you pull the handle bar assembly off you can pull it straight out the top through the hole. Hope that helps.

remove mpem and mount then stearing head bolts 4 . "Unstrap fuel tank take oil cap off and lift and slide oil tank to the rear a few inches then remove the fuel fill hose and all the baffle hoses and unseat the baffle. Grab fuel tank pull up and foward till the baffle is under the hole for the stearing and slide it up and out. install is the reverse replace fuel lines if the old ones are gray. the new baffle is marked so you can hook up the correct way havent done one in years but this is how I remember it was done. Good luck
