I found some Navionics stuff on Installous but not for the U.S.
I use the Garmin BlueCharts on my chartplotter for the boat.
The nice thing about the iPhone Google Map GPS is I can easily use it on my boat or ski and get a beautiful full color daytime image of the exact location where we are in Florida; on the rivers, lakes, anywhere. I have already used it at night on the lakes and it works great.
It doesn't give navigation info like the BlueCharts with reefs, depths and hazards, but you can at least tell exactly where you are in relation to canals, inlets, boat ramps, etc. And it's free!

"Marine Charts" @ $9.99 is pretty good. Has all the Coastal & Great Lakes charts. Bahamas too.

Marine Charts works on iPod and iPad, not just iPhone.
Works without requiring a cellular Internet connection, so you can use a WiFi only iPod or iPad. Download the charts before you leave the house, of course. I am not sure which non-iPhone models have a built-in GPS receiver
The iPad would be cool as a large screen navigator, and not that expensive compared to actual Marine gear with screens of comparable size. Just need to find a way to mount it, and a waterproof housing/case.
And Android I expect it will be updated to work on many of the new 2011 CES announced tablets.
