i am running 17 w a rude 3 ..and understand i am just on the cusp..they guys running the et extreme like to mix race fuel w prem..

alot of it depends on you timing..if you dont have a way to controle timing i would say 17 psi is about it..

just my opinion based on what i have seen...

Will as I know the fuel octane depends on your timing not boost

fuel ignites at a certain point based on pressure and spark. if the spark (timing) is not changed, you can force in so much air + fuel that it ignites too soon.

The octane level actually depends on the compression . If you have to much you have to retard the timing to stop detination . The more timing you can get the zipper it will be so in std form the engines compression ratio , boost pressure and octane level work together . Dont quote me but i would guess std comp ratio would be about 8:1 . If you crank up the boost you should reduce the comp ratio eg. 8lb-8:1 , 16lb-7.5:1 , 24lb-7:1 . If you dont do this you run the risk of detenation and total engine distruction not to mension pushing the head off the top of the block at WOT causing head gasket leaks and emptying overflow bottles ( ARP studs would help this ) . Most good quality forged piston manufacturers will supply decompressed pistons because they know the will be used in HP applications . A good engine builder will calculate the comp. ratio and adjust according to boost . Its not a good idea to run hi boost you know the engine will handle it , makes for an unreliable ride

Sorry what was the question again When do you have to start running race fuel , ask your man doing the ignition and fuel mapping on your ECU hell want to know comp ratio , fuel octane , boost pressure and and what ever else youve done to it to reflash properly

Ok different question. What is the most boost I can run with a stock ECU?

stock ecu acually has less timing than most aftermarket.. it wont spin the charger as fast so you wont see as much boost...you can run as big of a charger as is avalible..wo issues...just need to controle the fuel..make sure you dont go lean ..there are a few rude controlers in the classifieds that will allow you to do it.
