    787 Need Crank Advise

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine out of a 96 GTX.

I usually get oem BRP parts as my friend is a dealer so I get very good pricing. The problem is BRP do not have any cranks available and the best date they will give is sometime in the spring.

The only engine mod will be flame arresters and rejetted carbs. I would like to use decent quality parts I'm not looking for the cheapest crank out there, something comparable to oem. The old crank has some very noisy bearings, no heat discolouration on the rods so it's a good core.

Any recommendations on where to get a good quality rebuilt crank ?

You know i have had a sbt crank in my 96xp that is a limited mod. I turn 7500rpms and that crank has been bullet proof for at least 3 years on the limited engine and about 2 on the engine when stock for a total of 5 years. $275 bucks plus 25 shipping is what it costs for the crank. If your engine is a stocker i see no problem getting one of those. Plus it comes with a 1 year no fault warrenty.

So far this is what I have found:

    SBT $275.00
    Short Blocks R US $379.00
    Hot Rods $432.00
    Crankworks $495.00

Anyone dealt with Short Blocks ?

I'm no longer a fan of the SBT cranks now that they use Chinese bearings. Also, Hotrod cranks are made in China.
