    Piston Ring Position

Installing new rings onto a new piston. The manual states that the manufacturer mark on the rings should be facing up. There is no manufacturer mark!

Can I assume that the "beveled" edge of the ring faces up?

There's a small paint mark on the side, but not on the top or bottom. The rings and pistons are oem Yamaha.

the manual has a very clear diagram of how it looks. also the ring has radius cut for clearance of the ring alignment pin the radius will only engage the pin in one direction. put the ring on and squeeze to check alignment to the pin.

The only diagram in my manual that appears to show the alignment, is a cross sectional portion of a ring groove that illustrates where to measure side clearance. The top side of the ring in that diagram is bevelled, the bottom flat, if you assume that the cross section is oriented right side up in the manual.(its not labeled)
    Thanks for the reply.

The Bevel side on the ring does point up just like the picture. Page 106 and 107 in my manual show the ring alignment. page 109 shows what you are describing.

We must have different manuals!! My pages are numbered 5-32 for instance. Anyway, I've got the piston rings installed. Thanks for the help. By the way, do y'all re-use piston pin clips? I lost one new one. Still have my old ones.

You should be OK Steve. Be sure the open end is 180 away from the hole.

Look for a T or C on 1 side of the ring. It can be hard to see like a 3d image somtimes. Look at an angle and look to the right of the ring gap about 1/2 to 1" & No I don't reuse circ (cir) clips
