    FZR BOV

    Hi Gents,

Today installed a billet BOV from Watson Racing. It is made well and the price was right and it seems to work well, a bit too well unfortunately. It appears that it is releasing pressure while producing boost aswell as when the throttle has been released. I dont think that this is correct and the two causes I am thinking of would be the internal spring is not strong enough or the vacuum pressure from the vacuum hose is too strong.

    Any thoughts ?

This was in my driveway with water being fed to flushing port. It releases a little pressure at low rpm and more at higher rpm but when you let off the throttle it gushes out, like it should. It is NON adjustable.

id suggest putting it in the water mine also sounds like its letting boost out wen rpm is slowly increased but wen u pull the trigger there aint no boost leak

Correct, mine lets out intake air at idle and low RPM upto say 3000, but when the real fun starts it seals up unto you realese the throttle. It needs pressure to seal then when the throttle releases it dumps the boost. Sound like yours is ok.

It is very important for the BOV to release the "pre boost surge pressure" (that's what I call it anyway) so that between idle and just before your on positive pressure the supercharger is not surging. The bigger supercharger wheel you have the more of the PBSP is occurring (it's always there even on stock wheels). This type of surging is giving your supercharger drivetrain a pretty good workout and won't be doing it any favours.

Well designed Dr. Watson! (sssshh .......don't tell anyone).

Note: this is a very different thing to "off throttle surging" were the BOV opens as wide as possible in the shortest amount of time to prevent damage. Kind of a two things in one design. That maybe why some top end guys run two BOV's.

The other thing Dan is that the whole system needs "load" on it to work as it should. What you see on the trailer is totally different to how it reacts in the water. Go for a blurt with the seat off and check how it works. Just don't run into anything at wot while your head down, arse up in a ski at 80mph. lol.
