    Which Design?

I need a little help deciding on a design of something I'm making in my manufacturing class. We are aloud to design ANYTHING we want and create it on one of the the CNC machines in the shop. I decided to do something with the Yamaha tuning fork, and here's what I have so far.

First I drew the logo in AutoCAD:

I imported it into MasterCAM and messed around with the settings a little:

Do you guys like the flat or rounded one? Should I use wood or aluminum?

I was also thinking about making it into a clock....

Thanks for the response! I was kind of leaning towards that one too.

The flat one is too deep, and the shank would grind up all the walls. :/

Anyone know where I can buy a block of aluminum? or any other type of metal for that matter...

Very easy to use website and I've dealt with them 5 or 6 times now without issue.

I edited the design a little bit. I decided to go with a a more rounded look, rather than a round/pointy look. I also added a brick background, but I'm just going to take it off. I don't think it really fits with Yamaha. I would love to put a diamond plate design, but masterCAM doesn't have that option.

I worked out all of the tool paths and now it is ready cut. I think I'm just going to use Macaray wood right now, then if I want to make one out of alloy later on I will...

Finally got the piece on the CNC machine today! Started it at about 9:00 this morning. There were 700,000 lines of code, so it's probably just about finished now. I took some pics and video of it running. Nothing too exciting, but pretty cool nonetheless.

This was just the first pass with the 1/4" ball tool. It still had to do a 1/8" and 1/16" pass... I'm looking forward to see what it looks like tomorrow.

Had a snow day on Friday, but I got the piece today and I am very happy with it. I just have to sand it and then decide if I want to paint it or just throw some clear coat on it...
