Why don't you just ditch the choke plates all together and get the primer set up. Much easier when starting an saves the battery/starter.

7080671 is item 16 in the diagram for the 1997 SL1050

Click my signature links for more info. Parts can be found via the Parts Sources link.

Available $30 new from PartsPitStop and probably available new and used from multiple places.

Sounds like this may be an aftermarket primer, not the OEM choke.

Can you post some clear photos of this thing?

Do take the time to click my signature links, or click here.

You have a pair of PWC (1996 SLX 780, 1997 SL1050) that are each approaching fifteen years old. A lot can happen to a machine in that time.

Even things which are not yet broken or obviously failing may need to be checked, updated, renewed or replaced.

It will take some time and effort to do what should be done to ensure each is as it should be. Almost every older PWC, regardless of brand, needs maintenance work, and even when the previous owner took good care of them.

The only thing that makes any older PWC reliable is the attention and effort you put into it. It is very true that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Just running them as is or with minimal checks and fixes can easily result in engine damage or jet pump damage.

More importantly, a poorly maintained PWC can leave you stranded out on the water. That can be inconvenient, or downright dangerous, depending on where and when it happens. And you don't get to choose when/where it breaks down.

You minimize the chances of having problems by doing the work up front to ensure everything is as it should be.
