    Need help finding upgrades

Alright guys, I'm new to the forum and to working on jet ski's. Ive had two seadoos for about two years now, and my 1996 GSX is probably due for a rebuild soon. I'd like to swap out the motor which isn't the original to begin with(so the repair place said) or get the motor completely redone with bigger pistons ect. and i figured you guys were the ones to go too for advice. I'm a great mechanic when it comes to vehicles, i've built my own engines from the bottom up so i'm not stupid when it comes to motors, I've just personally never worked on these motors besides spark plugs and a starter solenoid. so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, and i'm up for whatever ideas you guys have to offer! my price range would be around $750 for the rebuild, trying it myself.

why do you think you need a rebuild? is compression low? best thing to do, IMO would be to get the motor out, and completely inspect. look to see what size pistons you have now, etc.

also note, you will need to machine the RAVE valves to match over sized pistons.

i would suggest getting a shop manual for your machine.

Don't fix it if it's not broken.

well, the reason is i did a compression test and its showing around 120/130. I mean are there any performance pistons out there for this motor? I'd really like to make it faster, last summer it would do about 57 tops on the lake when it was glass and i got the trim right. Also, wheres a good place to buy new rave valves, one of mine is pretty much destroyed on the inside, i could take a picture of it.

Just FYI, 57 GPS is right on for a 787 GSX. That is all it will do in top condition. (Or are you saying it does 57 on the speedometer? These speedometers are not very accurate, so you should only use GPS for speed checking...)

You would have to spend a ton of cash to just get another 3 mph or so out of it. Better off selling it and buying a 951 GSX LTD.

it was on the gps, the speedometer said around 70 if i remember right and if i was going that fast i'd know it haha. But heres a question for you, would it be possible to put in a bigger motor? or would it just turn into a money pit with extra parts i'd have to change out..

I agree with what Sea Dood is suggesting. If you're that hell bent on a bigger engine then sell what you have and get a GSX Ltd. with the 951 then build the beejezus out of that.
