    GP1300R Speedo Question

Hey Guys, kinda new to the site. I bought an 03 GP1300R today. It only has 35 hours on it and runs pretty good. However, the speedo reads kinda goofy. When I have in pinned on flat water, with no cav, it jumps around ....ex...38mph, 55mph, 40....ect. I believe the ski is running in the 60's, so its weird how the numbers jump around. Is there anything I can check to see what is causing this?? Thanks.

check all the connections going to gauges, u can even clean them with a electrical cleaner, check speed sensor in bottom rear of ski on ride plate, little spinning wheel. ( just explaining cause u said ur pretty new to skis!! not being a jokester!!) the rear cable sometimes gets snagged so check it well, if it still doesnt work, try another gauge, u can always find someone on here parting out a gpr, or seliing just the gauges cause everyine is swaping the motors for SHO'S or RXP'S!!! good luck with ur ski and welcome to the site!!!!!!!

The wheel spins freely. What is the rear cable you are talking about? What else can I check?

BTW, I understand the Dream-o-meter thing. This ski is for my girlfriend, so the actual speed is not that important, I just want the speedo to look like its working right.

the wire in the rear, that goes to the little speedo wheel on the ride plate, but its probably fine cause the gauge is lighting up, just reading incorrectly.. u should try to find a gauge from someone on here, go to the yamaha classified section and make a wanted ad... wtb stock speedo gauge for gpr1300.. and i know the dream-o-meter doesnt show actual mph but its nice to have the gauges working when u look down, especially if u just spent a lot of money for the ski. i just wish my gas gauge was accurate!!!!

ID:	230196 if the slack is too much or the hose routing interferes then loosen the white cap and gently pull wire until grommet comes out then you can return some of the slack into the hull then reinstall. my question is can i delete this whole assy????

Thanks a lot for the help guys! 1200stx-r, I really appreciate you taking the time to post some pics. I know exactly what to look for now. Waverider, thats exactly what Im talking about, just want the guages to look right. So......if the wheel is spinning freely, and the wire appears to be in good shape, you guys are saying that the guage itself is likely the culprit?

the wheel is going to spin freely regardless unless of course it got crushed. the "pick-up" in the sensor that reads the wheel speed could be bad which is more than likely the problem . (i had that with my stxr then just got a gps) but since you are getting speeds then maybe you should be aware that if the ski is porpoising or out of the water then readings aren't right anyway. so at 30 or so steady it should be fine when you start screwing around or jumping that is where you might be seeing speedo not registering correctly. which is what is supposed to happen.
