    Charging System failing??

    I have a 951cc 1998 GSX Ltd SeaDoo. I put a new battery in
    May and charge it up with a trickle charger prior to running. Fires
    right up. After 3/4 hours of running, usually at at least 4000rpm's the
    start becomes noticebly weaker. The low voltage msg comes on.

    Is the magneto wearing out?? Unknown age since I bought this ski
    used, but was rebuilt. Has about 145 hours total on it.

    Anything else I should check?? Cost to replace the charging system elements?

    Using a voltmeter note the battery voltage then start it up and see if the voltage increases. No voltage increase no charging.

    You should see 12.5v to 13.0v for a fully charged battery and around 14.0v to 14.5v when charging. If you have a clip on ammeter that reads dc amps you can also check for charging current on the battery pos cable when the ski is running.

    I hope for your wallets sake it's not the rectifier as it's built into the MPEM on your ski. $$$$ Cha Ching

    Thanks for the info. How much $$$$ cha ching are we talking if it
    is the rectifier??

    There are two in the classifieds for $285 each but they will go quick at that price.

    There is a test for the diodes in the rectifier if you take a mulit meter and go from the red in and test each yellow the continutiy should only go through the rectifier one way and should not be able to go with continuty each way. I would test it first but they do go all the time.
