In for an answer. I took mine off and have all the parts ready to go back on. I just need the correct rivet gun.

Harbor freight has one for $5. I just dont know if it will work.

I've been thinking about this and as long as the rivet is long enough I am going to try to use a small copper tube cut short to place between the head of the rivet tool and rivet. This should allow me to hold the rivet in place and pop it. Time will tell...

Small washers over the rivet shaft, to space the nose away works just fine.

I use small nut on the mandril (thin) side

I used 2 different rivet tools from Harbor Freight. One was the $5.99 model and the other was the next model up with the rotating head (~$10).

I had no issue getting into the recessed holes of the bumper if I unscrewed the threaded nut on the end of the tool a bit.

The problem I faced is the stock rivets are a large diameter and neither tool did a good job poping the rivets. I was able to get 7 rivets done with the cheaper tool until the stem got stuck in the tool and I could not remove it. I took it back to the store and got the tool with the rotating head. I couldnt get any of the rivets with this tool to tighten.

I took that tool back as well and went to Lowes and got stainless steel bolts for the last few holes.

You might have better luck that I did, but the large rivets will give you some trouble.

if I unscrewed the threaded nut on the end of the tool a bit.
yeah, that caused mine to jam too on a couple of good guns as well. Don't do it. Use a spacer. It knurls the crap out of the shafts.

That might have been my problem then. Next time I will use some washers or something to that effect.

    Thanks.

Washers did not work, so I tried a nut. The tool just pulls the rivet half way and snaps the shaft off with about 3/4 inch hanging off. Tried three differnt tools with the same results.
