Question Thinking of buying 2001 Yamaha GP1200R Stage 2

I have wanted a jet ski my entire life. I got a pretty good tax return this year and am thinking of finally living my dream of owning one. I found this one by accident and have researched this website along with others to see if I am getting a good deal. He was asking $3200 but I talked him down to $2500. Here are the specs

    2001 Yamaha GP1200R Stage 2 around 80 hours w/two jackets, trailer w/new tires

upgrades with around 35 hours on them:

    386.10 R&D Domes
    $99.00 PowerValve Clips
    169.95 Riva Ride Plate
    129.95 Riva Intake Grate
    79.95 Riva Pump Seal Kit
    249.95 Riva Race Sponsons
    269.95 Solas Set Back Impeller
    91.87 Riva Pump Cone
    46.99 Riva Free Flow Exhaust
74.99 Riva D Plate (eliminates Catalytic Converter)
    150.00 Yamaha Cover

From what I have read, it sounds like a great deal. He said that it runs great, last rode in September. Not using premix, but hasn't had any oil line issues. Said it runs around 70 Mph. Hasn't checked the compression.

Would you guys mind providing me with some feedback, suggestions?

Sounds like a good deal. Do a compression check though.

Yeah, I need to buy one to check it when I go look at it. I guess I need to basically look at everything...make sure it looks like its in good condition. Any other tips?

Definately do the compression test and remember, with the R&D head it should be about 145-150 PSI per cylinder. If it checks out good and test ride goes well I'd give him $2500 and run. That is a very good deal. The stage 2 kit alone is $2K.

Look at the keel real good, check the pump with a flashlight, and look over the inside good to see how clean or how much rust there is. More importantly ask him what he did to it after he rode it(wash, flush,Spray with CRC or other). If he looks at you with two heads walk away. Ask him if he is a member here, and most important don't be afraid to walk away. Believe me I was just as itchy to get my hands on my first ski last year, There is a lot of junk out there so don't get impatient.

Well he ended up getting a better offer before I could come check it out. On top of that my father had a heart attack and had to have open heart surgery that week. So, I didn't end up getting it. Now I am looking in to this offer 2003 Yamaha GP1300R Jet Ski with only 75 hours - $3500 OBO

Owner says: Great Jet Ski in excellent mechanical condition. Comes with 2003 Hawk Trailer and Yamaha cover for jet ski. Jet ski has 75 hours and has had its 60 hour complete tune up. Only freshwater used.

I am really interested in this one. It is all stock. I only have 3k to offer right now though. Hope this one works out! Any advice guys? What should the compression run on this one?

Sorry to hear about your father. Hope all is well now.

Compression on a stock GPR should be around 120-125.

    Other things I would ask:
    -D-Plate installed?
    -Pump tunnel reinforced?
    -Pump shoe sealed?
