    1100 piston install

tried something different today installing pistons into the cylinders on the 1100 motor,I used a drill press with the adjustable plate,I hung the cylinder block from the top of the drill press and placed the crankcase with pistons on the adjustable plate and cranked it up with 1 hand while squeezing the rings and guiding the piston into the cylinder,it worked great ,did not have to worry about holding the cylinder block,if I have to do another 1 in the future this is much easier than any other way i have done it.

Interesting but what if you do not have a drill press? I will be doing this soon on a 1100 and have a manual but not real clear-- Any old school lessons learned?

I found that hanging my cylinder block and coming up from the bottom with the crankcase and pistons works fairly easy if you have no help, however everyone does not have a drill press but you might could hang your cylinder and use a floor jack, same basic idea as the drill press, just have to be able to secure the crankcase to the floor jack ,might could lay a piece of wood or something on top then just pump the floor jack slowly up and compress the rings with your fingers while slowly moving up.

OsideBill posted his technique here. He staggers the pistons and uses paint stir sticks to hold up the middle piston.
