    Premix??

I just recently did a oil injection removal and started it up today for the first time. I read that when you do start it for the first time, your supposed to let it run for about 15 mins but pouring a little oil in the carbs til the premix gets cycled through.Well I did that about every 5 mins (3 times in the first 15 mins) then let it run for about 20.

My question is, it smokes aLOT more then it did with the injection.

Is this normal? Will it go away?

Its a 96 venture 1100 so I know its gonna smoke a little but this is a lot??

Yes it will smoke A LOT more and no it will not go away. The oil injection system is not linear. When you are idling, someone had said that it runs at something like 200:1 and if you're premixing you are probably running 32:1, so you are going to have a hell of a lot more smoke. At WOT it would be 32:1.

From what I have read and been told is that on the older yamis, the oil injection is fixed mixed so it dumps as much oil idleing as it would WOT. I dont think they would set it up at 200:1 at WOT. Im not sure though, still learning.. lol

Also its not really premixed all that great right now.. its prob around 75:1 caused I just used what I had laying around.

Could be, I'm not sure that I've read people here talk about the fact that it's not linear.

I personal kept the oil injection on my two WaveVentures. I replaced all the lines and put pinch clamps on them so there is no way that they will fall off. You could fill the gas tank slightly more than two times for one tank of oil. When I was out with a bunch of people the last thing I wanted to worry about was going back to the ramp if I needed fuel. I could just stop at any fuel station with the guys, filler up and keep going.

Ive always got an extra quart of oil on me anyways just in case but I was told by a local marine mechanic that it does smoke quite a bit more then it should when idleing.

Its not all that cool or good looking when you pull up to a bunch of people in a no wake zone and smoke them out ya know, and thats about what I was doing..lol

Naw, that's nothing. I think one of my more "high hours" WV smokes a hell of a lot more than that when on the flush hose. That may be too lean.

If you want less smoke then why did you switch to pre-mix?

If the stock oil injection pump was variable flow rate, then it would use less oil than pre-mixing, especially at lower RPM.

A cold engine will smoke more than when it is warmed up. And when the engine is running at speed it will also burn more cleanly.

I was told that the 96 didnt have the variable flow. Thats way I did the switch hoping it would help out with the smoke some. With the premix it smokes a little less on like 1/4 throttle then it did with the injection but idle is more...

Btw the video is shot with the motor warm. It had been running about 20 mins when i shot that.
