Thread: Premix Smoke??
03-18-2011, 11:46 PM #1
I just recently did a oil injection removal and started it up yesterday for the first time. I read that when you do start it for the first time, your supposed to let it run for about 15 mins but pouring a little oil in the carbs til the premix gets cycled through.Well I did that about every 5 mins (3 times in the first 15 mins) then let it run for about 20.
My question is, it smokes aLOT more then it did with the injection.
Is this normal? Will it go away?
Its a 96 venture 1100 which is a 2 stroke so I know its gonna smoke a little, but this is a lot??

What kind of oil are you using and what ratio?

quicksilver synthetic and its not mixed really good right now but its prob around 75:1 cause i just used what I had laying around

I sure hope you are not running 75:1. You will destroy that motor very quickly. That is way too light on the oil!!!

I know its supposed to smoke a little but I think this is a little too much? What yal think?

Yes it should smoke a lot. You will not see as much smoke when you get it in the water. Like surf rider said 75:1 will ruin the engine. 40 or 50 to 1 is the norm. Also I hope you had a water hose hooked to it when you ran it that long. I don't see any water coming out of the jet in the video. You should never run it more than 30 seconds without being hooked to a hose.

Yea I had a hose hooked to it. I had disconnected it just a few mins before. Also I have not checked the compression. I assume they should be good because its a fairly new motor. >30hrs.

All three of mine smoke that much or more when running on the hose. Its normal. Mix 40:1 and go ride. If the power isn't there it may need the carbs rebuilt.
