    pro 785

ok i bought robs 97 785 the motor is thrashed. but it was nor mine or his fault he bought it that way for 200 bucks as did i. the cylinder jugs still looks useable and the cases the crank and rods are rusted like crazy hurricance carried the ski off and filled it with water my guess would be salt water also. so my question is would it be better for me to sell the jugs and cases and buy a fresh motor for 1800 or rebuild this one?? i found a few for around the 1300 to 1500 range but everyone wants a good core and idk if the crank would be reuseable it has seriopus rust.

Unless lugs has another spare he's willing to part with, I would rebuild it.

    What was damaged?

If the cyls are good, a top end kit and crank rebuild would be all that's needed.

If the cyls are damaged, you're looking at alot to repair.

785 cylinders use a Nicasil plating, you can't just bore them out like most. If the plating is damaged, it costs around $175 each cyl to bring them back to new.

Sharp's Marine is offering a service to install cast iron sleeves into the cyls if you want to go that route.

See if the cdi wiring ,trim motor, elec stator and ebox is rusty. usually happens if not attended too after a sinking event. Starter and bendix too.
