Wink little advice on riva flame arrestor/filter

guys fitting riva flame arrestor / filter to my 13r 05,got to air box and dont know if the box needs opening to remove mesh inside air box as it looks as if from diagram in manual there is mesh in there or do i bolt up the filter and leave mesh in there aswell, i assume its got to be removed but need a second opinion to set my mind at rest..thanks in advance paul

remove it i believe it restricts the performance of the filter
