    96 GTX Has me baffled

I just rebuilt the motor and it runs great except it will not go out of the hole. When starting the motor revs fine and it sits and spins until it reaches 15 mph. Then it goes fine. It easily runs 50 MPH. As long as I keep it above 20 MPH all seems fine. I thought it must be something with the pump so I swapped it with a spare I had. Same thing no help. It must be cavitating, but why. Any ideas? This really has me baffled.

Air leak at the drive shaft seal or rideplate.

I found a chip in the carbon seal. Is there anyway to change this with the motor in?

Yes, there is either an o-ring or c-clip under the Stainless steel ring that the carbon seal rides on. You have to push the ss ring towards the stern to remove the retainer. Once that is done remove the pump and you can remove the shaft and replace the carbon seal.

I see how this is done.

    Thanks, John

No prob. Sometimes it can be a pain getting the ss ring to move so be careful not to damage it. Especially the sealing surface.

forgot to mention. If you have the o-ring go get a c-clip. It's an updated part and is important to change to the clip.
