Seeking suggestions for replacing mirrors with cleats on a 2008 VX
As everyone knows the mirrors on the 2008 (and other?) models are a docking disaster waiting to happen.
Every time I pull-up to a gas dock in choppy conditions I am worried about losing the port mirror. I would like to replace both with either a block-off plate or a cleat. Preferably I would like to go with a cleat but am concerned the mounting point is not strong enough.
What have other members done? What brand/type of cleats did you install? How are they holding-up?
Thanks in advance.

This is something I've been considering on my FZS as well. I'm going to use the yamaha factory pull up cleats that are standard equipment on the cruiser models. It will require drilling 3 holes for mounting which i'm ok with. But first , i want to measure the distance between the mounting holes on the cleats to see if they're wider than the footprint of the mirror base in the event i have to sell the ski in the future and the new owner would prefer to have the mirrors. Which may leave a hole exposed.
The cleats retail for $55/each. I've seen them online as low as $43/each. Part #

I like your idea of using the Yamaha pop-up cleats!
Assuming the holes are not an issue, do you believe the mounting surface is strong enough for the cleats?

Yea, i love that idea as well. I was wondering where guys tie off there 'runners when docking. I have been throwing a loop aroung the steering collum but that seems rather ghetto to me.
