2002 Virage TXi runs poorly when cold (Australia)

Re: Cold start issue with 2002 Virage TXi

Hey I have what sounds like the same problem with my 2002 Virage TXi 1200.

Takes a good 20 mins to get it going, then for the rest of the day it's perfect. When I start it up first thing, it starts, idles for a few seconds, then cuts out. It carries on like this for 20 mins, slowly getting better and better, until finally running fine. Then it'll start first time for the rest of the day, then next day - same story.

Occasionally it starts fine first thing, but not often, and I can't remember if it was hot when it did that ?

I have also tested fuel pressure, voltage, etc. I will try the hair dryer trick.

I am also in Australia (Western Australia), anyone know who can repair the EMM ?

    Welcome to the Hulk

There is a fellow in OZ that was repairing these EMM. Wish I could recall his username

    Thanks for the welcome,

I didn't try the hair dryer trick, but I did leave my ski in the sun for half the morning, to warm up the computer, and it started up first time, no problem. I will try the hairdryer trick on a cold morning to be sure.

Is the emm easy to remove ? I am a bike mechanic, so are able to do it, just wanted to know if there are any tricks to it, before I start.

Do take the time to click through my signature links, especially the Ficht section

thanks very much for your help. Do you think my emm needs repairs ? Or could it just be moisture in there or something ?

Well, the first thing I usually do is try another TPS sensor. Common failure point, and can cause many different symptoms.

if the tps is faulty, can it play up in the morning, then fine for the rest of the day ? It is a much cheaper part to try. What about a resistance test on it ?
