    leaking stxr

my stxr has had a leak so the other day i put water inside the hull and found out it is leaking from the two front bolt holes on the intake grate. can i just take the ride plate off then the grate and put silicon in the two bolt holes and b good? anyone else had a problem with theres leaking there? doesnt seem like it would be a common place

I had a similar situation on my 2002 stx-r (but only after 100's of hours on her). Yes I put silicone seal in all the intake grate bolts AND ride plate bolts too (I was getting some leaks thru ride plate bolts too). It was not a really big leak but one time I had to leave the boat in the water overnight and the next morning there was about 2 ish gallons of water in the hull . . . the silicone shored up the leak for me . . . What year is your stx-r?

That's what I would do. Just make sure to let it sit long enough for the silicone to cure.

If it's mostly white its a 2002. 2002 was the best year; the hulls were slightly better that year IMO. My 2004 was a full 2 mph slower than my 2002 right out of the box. I could get 64 mph gps from the 2002. Never more than 62 mph from the 2004. Maybe the molds were tired by the time 2004 rolled around . . . who really knows.

I milled the head for a little more compression on the 2002 and diff prop. Once I did that it ran even better than stock (although I never GPS it with these minor mods). The 2004 I never really rode that much. It was supposed to be a "race boat" for me but by the time 2005 rolled around the 4 strokes where coming on . . . so I gave the 2004 stx-r to my brother.

Not sure what part you're talking about. Can you have one made locally?
