    Stripped GP1300R - More Abbotitis

After seeing some of the skis in this forum, I decided it was time to get busy. Spent today getting it stripped and sanded down. It's a low hour bank repo, but the hull was scratched to hell - looks like it was beached on rocks more than once. For once, everything came off with no broken or stripped screws or bolts. Of course the bow eye, the very last part I tried to remove, had to chap my ass. The top screw came out, but the bottom one just spins.

I guess now I have to cut the inner liner, unless someone knows of an easier way. If so, let me know 'cause this looks likes it's going to be a real PITA.

Anyway, here's some pics of todays adventure...

    Welcome Gatorcountry.
I think the general concencous is to just not remove the bow eye. TOO many of them break off, or just spin. I think you are in for some inner hull drilling to get to it.

Good advice. I started to realize I should have left it alone about the second turn on the allen wrench. This will definitely be the last one I mess with unless I have to.

I just got my ski back from the painters and yes they snapped the front bow bolts .
I had to cut a square hole bigger enough to get my fat hand in there keep the piece you cut out then slowly removed all the foam which is about a foot away from the bow eye. It s a pain in the arse but once you have removed the foam its easy just put a socket on the inside bolt and hold the outside one easy as i just did mine.
Remember when replacing get a can of foam replace all the foam you took out the glue the piece you cut out back in

Yes its pain but not hard

    Good luck

I got lucky on this one. I was able to wedge a screw driver between the bow eye and hull and apply enough pressure to stop the inner bolt from spinning. It would not come out, but I was able to tighten it back down. Now both bolts are nice and tight - never to be screwed with again. I'm thinking about painting the bow eye a nice bright PINK just to remind me!

"Abbotitis".... you can get rid of that with penicillin, can't you? Think I caught it from a ten-dollar hooker in Korea once.

Does the engine need to be removed for painting the underside of the hull ??
