Who has floated a valve so far?

Just trying to get a head count. What RPM range were you in and and what setup were you running? Thanks.

One thing I've noticed is; The actual HIGH rpm DOES NOT go more than 150 rpm above the rev limiter. It's alot more effective than I thought.

The only way I can think of to get a spike in rpm is on the trailer. Therefore, I've come to the conclusion that weak springs or broken springs are the culprits and slamming the keepers busting the retainers. IF the rebound is not crisp KA-BOOM.

If you have porting done, and the seats are hogged out too much, ON a cold motor, the head can expand before the seat does and cause the seat to loosen and get cocked leaving the valve nowhere to go but into the piston. For what it's worth...

...I think you can get Hi rpm mechanically. The rev limiter, as you say, does a good job. But if you, say, jump at hi or max rpm then land in a wave/wake maybe coming towards you - the revs can actually increase due to the impellor speed increasing rather than the (more normal) slowing down/lowering of revs. - Maybe another reason for backing off the throttle when you wave jump?

So Charles is one. And you were running the RR SC, not the B Kit right Charles?

Are there any other rec riders that have had it happen? How about racers?

Three weeks into this boat with Rotax Stage III without valve upgrade in early July of 06. Boat had ten hours on it. Problem- no valve upgrade, prop set-up for stage II. RPM around 8600.
