4" intake with stock airbox anyone!?!?

I had read on here before that restriction in the intake was caused by the bellows in the tubing and not by the airbox itself. I know some had talked about drilling out the end of the airbox and putting a coupler on it to connect the 4" flex. Has anyone done it? Any results or pics?? I was thinking about possibly trying it.

Why bother, you still wouldnt get the flow/volume you would with a true 4" intake. The stocker is restrictive and is very angular inside. Just go with the kanaflex setup

Here are some pictures to compare a 4" hose to the stock air intake. Its maybe a 100% increase in air flow between stock and 4" hose.

I think he is talking about using a 4 inch hose from sc connected to the OEM air box on tank.
Either way, the OEM air box would have to be gutted and moded to not reduce flow.

I ran a 4" hose from one of the vent hole under the glovebox to the stock air intake one time. Really no improvement over stock. The whole stock air intake system is restrictive. Its basically the same has a 215 set up.

That was what I meant. I had read of people talking about it and was wondering if anyone had ever done it. Just thought it might be a idea for a clean install.

Both hard plastic parts are wide open compared to the rubber flexible parts. The restrict part, based on the airflow numbers, is the connecting rubber coupler between the airbox on the gas tank and the wrap around plastic under the intake...if you are on a budget, remove the airbox on the tank and the rubber connector, toss on a filter....but if you are spending the money anyway, a full 4" kanaflex setup is cost effective and WISE!

i would run a filter setup. i also think the stock setup should have filter/screen or something. I pulled off my intercooller to clean it with gas and i have styrofoam in it too.
