Ultra 300 Filter element in exhaust manifold

I was wondering what the differences are between the Ultra 300 and older 260s when I realized that there is kind of filter element(same as the one found in the yamaha intake manifolds) in the exhaust manifold, did anyone remove this on their 300?

interesting. must be the ribbon used on the fzr. A few ponies to be had there by its removal I would guess.

May gain a few ponies but at what would be the consequence of removing it?
I don't think Kawi or any manufacturer would spend extra $$ for nothing or only to rob a few ponies from hi perf ski like 300.

something like this is typically used for noise control. They are used on cars also, after the catalytic converters. They almost look like a second set of cats.
I believe that ribbon is the first thing the FZR guys remove. I am shure someone brave will try it on the kawi and see what happens.

Guys your looking at the exhaust. The Yamaha ribbon is in the intake like a flame arrestor. I'm only looking at what you have presented here, but it looks like so type of CC to meet emissions regulations.

I was thinking it was there more as an emissions requirement rather than allowing water vapor to go back into the engine. Anyway I was just wondering if someone tried removing it from their 300 to test if there is a noticeable performance gain without it.

    Guessed it right.
So, removing that filter will gain you a few ponies and following as a bonus:
    > rusting valve stem/guides rusting
    > broken off spark plugs in the head because of rusted plug threads
    > engine hard starting after shutting off in water

Like I said things are there for a reason.
Oh, this filter fits on 250/260.
