What GPS is everyone using ?

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering what GPS you are using and why.

Im in the market for a GPS and I am yet to make up my mind. I have been thinking about a hand held that does marine maps but I am a bit concerned about the usefullness of such a small screen.

Any thoughts/first hand experience would be appreciated.

    Dan

Hope no one minds me coming in from the SD side, here...

I've been using the Garmin GPS Map76CSx and love it. I'm not in to wrenching and speed. Instead, I like to make distance trips (longest to date is 223 miles!) and I also fish off of my ski. I don't leave home w/o it. I'm also a hiker which is why I went w/the handheld. Yeah, the screen is a little small, but it has never been a concern and my unit has worked flawlessly. Ok, that's my 2...

Right now I'm using a Bushnell Onix400. Not a bad GPS, but they stopped making a mount for it before I could get ahold of one. Trying to do speed runs with one hand gets a little spooky I'm looking into the Garmen Forerunner right now, I've seen it used in a few vids. Not too expensive and it has a decent sized screen.

Old school for now... Here's the circa 1940 model I use mounted on my sled.

The Garmin 76 series have been replaced with the 78 series and I would like to get a 78sc. They have some upgrades to the 76 series and they float.

Really would like to get a Garmin 640/Touratech mount and be like mjh3ides...

Many of us have been using MAX SPEED for the iPhone 4; it was developed by a Green Hulk member and it was FREE in the App Store. I have tested it alongside my Garmin chart plotter and it appears to be extremely accurate! You can even take a screen capture and instantly send it to your buddy to show him the results of your latest mods!

GPS Map 76c is a good rugged unit. Get the Ram Motorcycle mount puts it right on the handlebar. Dont even have to look down to see it. Use them on both of my jets. The mount setup is about $37 from gps city. If you ride in salt be sure to get the s/s mount. There s/s is dark in color but it does not rust!! I have about 20 friends that have this unit. It has a micro sd card and we can load maps for the trip we are going to each others unit from a desk top computer.
