More MFD Problems - Round Type 1 MFD

Hey Guys, last summer I was doing alot of searching on the forums, and I vaguely recall seeing someone who repaired the Type 1 MFD's. Mine was working, but after repeated connect and disconnects, it crapped out... any suggestions? I don't want to pay 150 or more for another used one with faded numbers, mine actually worked quite well untill it quit working. I'd be happy to pay for the time and shipping...

    Welcome to the Hulk.

It helps if you let us know what ski you have.

Which is the type 1? Round or kinda oval shaped?

Did you check the 1/4 amp fuse inside the elec. box?

right, sorry. I have a 1994 SLT 750. It's the round type. Yes I checked the fuse, and even pulled the MFD and put power to it (I read the posts on how to test them). Upon reading these posts I learned that it's highly recommended to disconnect this before (dis)/connecting the battery

    Welcome to the Hulk

Is your round MFD totally dead, no display at all, not even a flicker?

Totally dead MFD are rarely fixable, compared to faded LCD digits. Still, if it is dead, not much harm in opening it up. Once open, you will need some experience with electronics repair in order to figure out what needs replacing, and how to do it.

Have a look at the MFD section from my signature links.

And have a look at How to cut open a round MFD display

Don't give up on that MFD yet. I have repaired these round MFD's ( mostly dim digits) I'll be happy to look at yours and see if it can be fixed. I do have some spare parts should your unit need them. If you are interested PM me and we will discuss.
