    Cleaning Rave Valve Ports

I am cleaning my RAVE valves on my Carbed 951 engine. I don't believe the valves had been cleaned in quite some time. My question is what is the best way to clean the RAVE ports in the cylinder. I worry that I'm going to get junk in the cylinder but the ports are so dirty the clean RAVEs still stick.

    Thanks

It's just carbon; don't worry much about it. I put the piston at TDC, then I use a flat bladed putty knife to scrape it, and rat tail file on the curved ends of the port. When I get it scraped down good, then I first use a small tube on the shop vac to pull out the major junk, then finish it up by spraying compressed air in the port which blows it out the exhaust.

A welders tube brush chucked up in a power drill will clean the RAVE slots out in no time.

A Rat Tail File in the ports !? Gimme a break !

And what, pray tell, is wrong with the rat tail file, especially compared to using a powered brush in the port?

    Ok

No solvent in the ports then I am assuming

The brush has some 'give', the hardened steel file doesn't and really isn't necessary
for almost any sort of Carbon deposit I've seen since my first 947 engine in '98
