Ski not starting intermittently after replacing starter relay & battery

About two weeks ago I replaced the starter relay at 165 hrs on my RXT. Ran great for one outting. Had it out again yesterday, ran it for a while, and then it wouldn't start back up. I could hear the 'clicking' but it wouldn't start at all. I was able to use a car key to jump across the relay contacts and get it running again. Once I was safely back at shore, I tried starting it again on shore and it ran fine. Anyone know what would cause it to not start intermittently like that? The battery and starter relay were both replaced with brand new OEM two weeks ago, so they're good.

hmmm, check for loose grounds to the block, use an inspection mirror to see if the starter cable is loose or corroded. make sure that your throttle cable isn't to tight at idle - the butterfly should be at the stop. could be a fluke and a bad relay.

Could be a bad relay. To check the relay...disconnect the red wire from the battery at the relay. Put an ohm meter across the terminals of the relay. Push the start button several times and see if the contacts are making good contact all the time. You should see 0 to .5 ohms of resistance each time you push the start button. If you see high or no resistance it's the relay.

Is the relay and solenoid the same? I know for sure a bad solenoid causes this.

Was the solenoid the new style, all plastic? I had the dealership replace mine under warranty and they used a old style one. I had the same problem again. It sent me on a wild goose chase, till I just replaced it myself with a new style solenoid.

I think my dealership did the same when they were replacing mines under warranty. They gave me the older style. I think the older style is brownish color while the newer ones are black?
