GPR vs. Thunderwagon
I finally took some time to get the ski in the water this weekend - it's been a miserable year, only 5 times out on the water.
I'm screwing around and enjoying what is likely going to be the last weekend of nice weather for the year, and I see a very cool boat on the water. It's what I call a "thunderwagon": 20' long, BB Chevy, dual carbs, chrome headers, etc. It was white with blue flames, and looked very, very nice.
Stopped and talked to the guy, who was with his wife. Nice dude. But when I asked him what it would do on the top end, he told me it was "detuned for 90 mph". I lost interest and said "have a good day."
As I pulled a u-turn to head in the other direction, he fired it up and started to pace me. I looked over, and he was giving me the stink-eye. I nodded, and it was on! I hunkered down and kept it at WOT for around 10 seconds, pulling my head up only once to check the tach. When I looked back, he was at least 100 feet behind me.
Haven't had a random encounter like that in a while, and felt pretty good after it was over. Like I said, he was a nice guy with an even nicer boat - just a little "misinformed".

The ole stink eye huh ?
That one cracks me up.
I had a 25' Baja single 454 (I think) at Egret Bay do the same to me a few weeks ago. I was on a 76mph 06' and needless to say the dude got his feelings hurt too.
Glad to hear you had some time to ride David.

It's a heck of a drive for you guys down near Clear Lake, but it has more wide open stretches of water than anything else I've ridden on in a long time. Great for tuning and testing, and not very busy at all. Best of all, it's about 1 1/2 minutes from my new house!
