2000 xl 1200
Iím not to active in the Yamaha section, more in the Polaris section due to the issues I was having with them. I wanted to first off say whatís up, and secondly, I wanted to get some advice. I am going to go look at a 2000 XL 1200. The guy stated it has never been in salt water, just had the engine re built (one cyl went out) about 40 hrs ago, runs great other than that.
What things should I be looking for when not only looking at it, other than the obvious but riding it also. I have a decent mechanical knowledge and am somewhat familiar with wave runners. Iím always up for learning something new.
thanks in advance

Ask about carb rebuild and if he swapped the oil pump for premix or just reattached the original oil lines. Hopefully he swapped them out if he kept the oil pump. Ask if on the rebuild did he use an SBT steel sleeved cylinder or an OEM cylinder/sleeve. Better to have everything the same. Check the wear ring as 1 of my mine had a bad ring and the guy was burning the impeller on it. Any upgrades like D-plate/temp sensor, Wave Eater clips on the power valves, aftermarket intake grill, etc? Will he let you do a compression test and test ride?
