tiny tach showing too many rpm

installed tiny tach as per instructions wrapped around #1 plug wire between the boot and insulation wrap ,grounded to bolt on the head cover . Fired up ski and it's showing 3400 rpm at idle ,8500 with a little throttle pop ,stock tach showing 1200 at idle . motor pretty much stock 66V . Any suggestions on how to get this to read correct ?

I've got one on my moped and couldnt get a good reading having the red wire wrapped around near the boot, instead I had to wrap it right up near the coil pack, and when you've wrapped it a 4 times bunch the wire up together so its not all spread out.

also I've heard people holding down the reset button for as long as 20 seconds and that's fixed it for other people
