    SL 900 impeller questions

Ok, I have 2 different impeller choices for my SL 900 I'm working on. I have the stock 1996 impeller 5131337 which is shown as a 17-22, and I have a stock 1997 impeller on the way which is a 5131588 thats shown as a 17-25 swirl. What will be the difference between the two and which one would most likely be the better choice?

Actually, I believe they are both swirl type impellers.

Bryan please visit Skat Trak's web site and read about them.

You can also go to Solas web site and see the differences between their impellers. (the Concorde closely resembles a swirl) to get a better understanding about impellers.

As for preference, what are you looking to do with the ski? Top speed or accel?

I personally think the 17/25 is too tall for a stock 900 with 100 HP. The 780 makes 92 HP and uses a 15/20 impeller just for comparison.

My friend has both 900's, he mentioned the 96 seems to have a better take off and the 97 seems faster on the top end, slightly less on take off.
I'm not entirely convinced that 588 17/25 is accurate, in 98 they started using a 554 17/25 swirl, why a different prop and part number if it is exactly the same size.

Well I have both so I will try them out and see what I like better. I couldn't find what exactly the definition of swirl was on Skat trak's site so I thought I would throw it out there to the guys with better knowledge than I have.

I guess that would make sense? What advantage does that offer? My guess is better acceleration. Maybe they went with a 17/25 because the 900 has more torque than the 780? That is the stock spec for the 97 SL 900.

The 1200s ran a 17/[email protected] rpm, so there is no way the 900s are running the same 17/25 at similar engine speeds. I'm betting the 900 "17/25" doesn't measure a true 17/25.

Swirls have blades that overlap quite a bit more than your average Nu Jet or Solas, say Super camber. That really packs the water in the pump and gives really good acceleration.

That's why we recommend the Skat trak for accel and Nu Jet for more top speed
