    GP 1200 cylinders

    My 1200 blew after 1 hour of riding this season and i need a 1200 cylinder ,I was looking at one and the skirts have been shaved on one side,protec job i believe,does anyone know the reason why they would do this and if it would affect tuning on a stock gp 1200.

    I would assume this was done for modifying the ski it was on.

    I believe they get trimmed on the intake side to improve air flow. Its typically done with a cylinder port job. A ported cylinder will require tuning/rejetting.

    i will probably pass on these cylinders as i do not want the headaches of trying to tune a 1200.thanks for the reply, now i just got to figure out what caused my number 2 piston to grenade,crank bearing gone also,and hole in case,not a good way to start the season,. luckily i have a crank and case.i will get pictures up soon as someone can probably tell me what caused the damage,ran perfect last year and perfect for about an hour this first ride out Sunday.tore the piston to pieces and it is covered in black smudge,other 2 cylinders are fine.
