96 SL700 ....newbee TRYING to get running!!

This is my first post on this forum....I have never had a PWC before I thought what is a better time than now to get one!!

    I just scored a 96 sl700, 94 kawasaki ST 750 and a double trailer for $300

    Now the bad:

sl700:the prev owner took the cylinder cover off and noticed that the piston has pitting on the edges and the cylinder cap on the one closest to the front. He also didnt put it back together and the cylinders now are all rusty....the ski looks to be all there..I need to know where to start. The engine code is wc70-dcsp-02

I have been looking for a cylinder cover and IDK if I have the sl700 or the sl700 dlx ....I have been told that there is a difference.

I just bought a battery tonight and it is charging overnight...dont know if it runs at all...

Kawasaki: The prev owner told me that it runs (yeah I'll believe that when it starts) has a hole in the side of the hull...Don't know if I should fiberglass it back together or find a donor hull.

    thanks for reading!!

    Welcome

You are missing parts for the Polaris engine?
And the cylinders are rusty? How rusty?

Work your way through the info in my signature links. Lots to learn

No I think its all there...one piston is at TDC and the other one is rusted about 1/2 way down the cylinder....the piston thats not messed up says 89.65 on it so it looks to be org. or not honed out

If i am missing anything it maybe a bolt or so...

Maybe post some pics of the cylinders so we can see what you are up against.

Contact John Zigler, search RCJS jetskis on the web

Or search RCJS here, he deals in used parts and is a great guy to deal with, reasonable prices.

But definatley post up pics of both the hull damage to the kawa, and some engine shots of the sl700

That double trailer is worth $300 bucks, nice find. Did you get titles?

Cylinder heads should be the same for any 700 that year. Look at the other one and see if you can make out the part number on the top.

    Welcome to Green Hulk !
In 96 there was only 1 model SL700. It was 97 that they offered a standard and deluxe. The standard would have only one carb and they raised the compression a little. The deluxe would have 2 carbs like your 96.

The lower compression head ( 96 & 97)-3022025-is not sold by Polaris anymore.
The 3022050 is slightly higher compression and is still sold by Polaris, like $23.Probably would need to adjust the carbs accordingly.

You can look up parts here;http://www.partspitstop.com/pages/OemParts

You can check what models the part number fits here;http://parts.polarisind.com/Advanced...ncedSearch.asp

Check the cylinders and crank to figure out what youre going to need.

Since it is 14 years old, always make sure what is actually on the engine.
I'm sure you can find a used head.
If you need to switch to the 050 heads, yes they should match.
