should i go back to oil inject

Hi everyone, first may i say what a great site,
I own a 1999 xpl which when i got it the last owner said he runs it on pre-mix. It does have starting problems and i put it down to carbs as it has after market filter.
Upon looking at it i saw that the oil pump is still fitted but the cable is snaped. im thinking last owner just did'nt bother, and just put pre-mix in due to cost of cable?
are the oil pumps reliable and would it be worth while getting a new cable?
also i have located a new cable but it says its a 2000 model not 1999, is there any difference as part numbers are?
    277000831, 1999 and 277000912, 2000 model.
thanks your help will be much appreciated

I run premix in my 99 xpl too and havent had any problems. First start with the easy stuff. Check the plugs. Clean the carbs and check the internal filters in the carbs. Let us know how it goes.

I'd go back to injection. Premix is a hassle not to mention uses alot of oil. Oil injection was introduced to give a metered amount of oil at a given RPM. The only time pre mix is feeding the right amount is at WOT.
