    2003 Yamaha XLT

I was looking for a little info a Yamaha 2003 XLT 1200. Is this one of the Yamaha's with Power Valve issues? For some reason I thought Yamaha had it worked out by 2003. Does this ski suffer the porporsing problems of the GP hulls? Is $5000 a fair price?

Here is Kelly Blue Book's value

    2003 Yamaha XLT1200 WaveRunner 3-P
    3-Cylinder
    2-Stroke
    1176cc
    Suggested Retail Value
    $5645

The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the watercraft has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition. Hours/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

What about the porposing problem of the GP hulls. Does the XLT suffer from these woes? Is it a nice riding boat? Dependable?

Oh yes, it has 60 hours, is very clean and has the D-plate mode already complete.

You will find the XLT does not porpoise, and is a very stable ski.

I have a GPR and a couple of years ago often went out with a girl who had an XLT and we often swapped ski's.

It was a little slower than mine, but went well and showed no sign of porpoising that I can recall.

You say the "D" plate's on it, so don't forget the waveeater clips as well.

    Welcome to the forum Mizelra,

I own an 03 xlt and it does popoise a little. The 03's have powervalves,so that's an area to focus on because of problems with dropping the valves.

Jim is the Man to call for XLT MOD'S/ parts. You can run wave eater clips to prevent power valve issue. Also, the xlt is much more stable- porpoising isn't a rear issue like with the gp requiring tabs & shimming. It will rocker once you get at or above 65mph.
