Greetings from 1st time PWC owner

    Hello all,

I just bought a 2000 ZXi and I'm looking for general advice. I took it out last Sunday and it ran nearly perfectly aside from a very slight hesitation at takeoff after long idles. Idle adjustment perhaps? Carb kits?

The ski is a little rough cosmetically but the engine compartment is extremely clean and the previous owner ran only premium gas and synthetic oil. A friend and I are doing a bottom job this weekend and I'm looking for two items:

-Front bumper and side rub rails

    -Speedometer pick up sensor

When the registration sticker expires (6/12) I will paint the top. Right now my main priority is to reduce/eliminate the inherent porposing these skis suffer from.

    Which engine?

If you have a porpoising problem, adjust the trim cable or more slightly forward on the seat.

It would be a good idea to inspect/replace the oil lines with polyurethane hose and secure them with stainless safety wire.

Thanks for the response; it's an 1100. Will a speedo from a 96 work for me?

I will get those lines replaced before my next ride.

Very nice corral you've got there Steve45. I'm kicking around the idea of buying a jet boat this weekend to go with my ski.

I don't know about the speedo, but you can go to one of the online parts vendors and check the part numbers.

I've got too many toys, it's a pain to keep everything running and several of them are for sale. In fact, I bought some of them non-running for the purpose of fixing and reselling them.

What kind of jet boat are you looking at???

I found & ordered a speedo. Looks like bumpers are readilly available and not too expensive. I think I'll just ride it this summer and paint the whole thing once it's too cold.

How do I adjust the trim cable?

Jet boat: 1977 Marlin with a fresh 460, berkeley jc pump w/place diverter, new floors & interior.

Loosen the locknut on the cable end fitting. Push back the collar and slip the fitting off the ball. Screw the end fitting in or out as required, re-install on the ball, tighten the locknut.

    Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know "pnwzxi"? I love what he did with the Hydro Turf on the back of his ZXi 900 (Click here).

I realize he hasn't been on in over a year but I'd really like to ask him some questions.

Is it normal for the impeller to be warm to the touch after riding (with the ski still in water)?

I am not sure how you are checking your impeller with it still in the water but I am sure there is friction when riding no matter what but you might have an issue with the pump housing swelling and in need of re-lining. Check the pump stainless steel around the impeller and see if there are any rub marks. It is a fun hull but the porpoising can be a problem. Supposedly a ride plate will help but I never tried any fixes when I had my '96 900 zxi's. They worked great when my kids were small but once they were almost 100 lbs the skis were terrible 2 up.
