Precision Sports' 'big-turbo' MSX 150 upgrade with Solas 13/19 impeller

Hi guys, thought I'd post a few photos of how my turbo upgrade is going.

here is a photo of the stock turbo:

here is the new Precision sports big turbo for the Polaris MSX 150:

the obvious difference is the impeller, but the compressor inlet is also machined out.

here a photo just to show how you need to tilt the engine to get the turbo and manifold off.

here is Martin from Precision Sports 'used' Solas 13/19 impeller.... looks new to me?
he sold it for a great price, well under half price!

here is the impeller fitted, its a very tight fit on the very good condition wear ring!!
the trailing edge of the blades are longer, and just miss the stator vanes

    here is the stock impeller

I'll add some more photos soon!

When you are done it would be great if you could get a top speed with a gps. Also the rpm you are turning

Cant wait for the results, I have a similar set up on the bench in my garage, trouble is the bench doesn't float well enough for a test run. ha ha

    if only it did!!!!

my ski is ready for water... keep you posted...

one issue, when i put my ski on my sloping drive, (front higher) it only started on one cylinder. the rear was fouling with oil it did the very same thing at a slipways once
anyhow, i cranked over the engine with no plugs, cleaned rear plug, its runs fine now.

this ski has seen hardly any use for last two years or so. perhaps have hard valve seals.

for now ive decided to keep an eye on it. ill keep checking the plug too.
id dosent smoke when idleing. weard.

anyhow. ive got the cast alloy exhaust outlet deflector off at the mo, ive cut a large radius in it to hopefully relieve any exhaust back pressure (noticed some at idle - less with outlet deflect off altogether)
    --- post a pic asap

what do you mean you noticed some back pressure at idle?

The purpose of that MSX exhaust deflector is to submerge the exhaust exit at low speeds, thereby making the engine quieter, especially at idle. When the hull is on plane the exit is above the water flow, so back pressure should be minimal. And the downward deflection of the sound into the fast moving water surface diffuses the sound, so even at speed it is quieter.

Some have removed that deflector entirely or fitted a straight through escutcheon but I have yet to hear of a documented change in engine power or WOT RPM, just more noise.

i totaly agree with what you said. what i meant was on idle, the turbo does spawl up abit, and you can feel some pressure, and i just fancy'd modifiying it, the 90deg deflector cant be that great for flow.

my point is - with ref to msx 150's is that the exhaust gasses are substantialy boosted (as is the intake) and while the exhaust tail deflects the gasses directly in to the water (initial) i just thought it was add to turbo loading.

im sure im being stupid, but i didnt thing it would hurt. i can always but another if its too loud.

here is a pic of the standard, ill attach pics of modified one tomorrow.

    test run should be tomorrow
