    polaris 2 cycle oil

I just picked up a pair of 97 SL 900's and the old owner was running the polaris standard 2 cycle oil and I plan on running sythetic. Can I just pour in the ves gold or do I need to clean out tank first? Thanks in advance, BTW this is a great place for lots of info!!!

Let the oil tanks get low and you can add the new into it. Their is hardly any benefit (I believe) to running a synthetic in the ski's. I used the Polaris blue while I had the
Oil injection and now just use pennzoil marine premixed. Make sure you do a full maintenance check on both ski's. Don't take the other guys word for it. Follow the links in
K447's sig for lots of good info. Should clean inspect carbs possibly rebuild, replace old fuel lines, replace oil injection lines etc..

No need to run Polaris Gold in the SL900...just throwing money away (its $40/gal). That VES Gold was made for ski's with exhaust valves, which you don't have. Just run Polaris Blue or Yamalube 2S...they're the same thing.

yamalube 2S?? or do you mean yamalube 2W? I read that the W is for the waverunners and the S is for the bikes

2S..the 2W was formulated for Yamaha's own watercraft that ran a catalytic converter....has less harmful and toxic additives. The 2S is better overall for your motor. Use that.

Is the Yamalube 2W oil good enough for our watercraft engines?

Some of us lean towards minimizing the pollution going out the exhaust system and into the lake water.

I understand. Sure, it will protect the engine...but its a little more gummy than the 2S, and lacks the better additive package. There are many GPRs out there that have gone over 100hrs using 2W oil. Phosphorus and zinc will kill a catalytic converter in no time, so they leave these out of the 2W. Phosphorus is bad for waterways also...creates excessive algae blooms, but the runoff from fertilizer has a much, much greater impact. Off topic, Michigan just banned fertilizer with phosphorus in it.
