    2001 Virage top speed issues

Hello, I am new to the forum and need a little assistance. I have (2) 2001 Virage 700 Skis. Over the weekend one of them started acting up. From idle if I slowly run up the speed it does fine till around 4000 RPM. The engine seems to make a wa wa wa wa wa noise and there is little power. If from idle I gun it it does it automatiacly. The power has been reduced and will only top out around 35 MPH. Anyone now what the issue might be? Spark is good on both plugs and the fuel filter is clean. I filled both skis up at the same place and the other ski runs fine so I dont think it is a fuel issue.

    Welcome to Green Hulk

Do you have a warning or red light blinking on the MFD (display) ?
You do have a "limp mode " for overheat, but that should be 3500 rpm.

Check the jet pump for ANY debris.

    Welcome

Check cylinder compression. Are the spark plugs fresh?

Hello again, I just inspected a little further and found that my jet nozzle in the back near the reverse gate is cracked. Would this cause the speed issues and the weird noise at high speed? Luckely I have an extra one I found on ebay for $40. I will replace it this evening and see.

I just took the jet/nozzle off the back and inspected the water pick up tube in the back. The Jet is cracked and may possibly be disruption the flow of water thru the jet/nozzle. I am not getting an over heat or any warning light on the dash. I actually have two of these and am going to swap the good nozzle/jet with the bad one and see if it helps. If this does not work I will check compression. Thanks for the input and I will follow up.

Well, the ski is running very good now.

I replaced the ground cable from the battery as well as cleaned all grounding wires. Also I went ahead a replaced the spark plugs.

I had it up to 53 mph yesterday.

Now the starter soleniod does not want to engage. I have to hit the start switch several time to get the starter to kick over. The battery voltage is good and the wiring looks good as well.

I am thinking of replacing the soleniod. Anyone know where I can find a new one? Ebay has one for $40 but if I can find it cheaper that would be great.

What exactly happens when you press Start button?

Do you hear the solenoid click?

Do you hear the starter motor engage the flywheel?

Does the starter motor spin and whine without actually cranking the engine?

Is the solenoid black in color with a metal backing plate?

I do have the black soleniod with the metal bracket. a couple of weeks ago the soleniod stuck and kept the starter engaged. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the starter. Now when I press the start button I can hear the soleniod clicking but it takes several presses to get it to engage the starter. I am thinking the soleniod is not makeing good contact possibly due to burned contact points. any ideas?
