1995 xp-800, what engine to put in?

My old xp800 has died. Grabbed a piston and water in the jug from a crack in the jacket.

My mechanic wants to rebuild the current engine.

I am leaning towards replacing it with a rebuild.

The only company I am familiar with is SBT. I personally Had bad luck with one of their rebuilds, but I have seen lots of their engines run reliably.

My question is what other options are there?

Is it possible to buy a factory new engine? Anyone else selling rebuilds?

Anyone great aftermarket parts or suppliers to build a bullet proof engine from?

Number 1 important factor is reliability and the ability to run on pump gas.

89 if possible so i can fill up on the water, 93 if absolutely necessary.

What aRe my options? Any advice at all?

    I really Appreciate the help.

Btw, I have another ski and the old xp has been in the barn for several years.

I have been out of the loop for awhile, so I haven't heard about any advancements, and no one is running the old 2 strokes around here. The seafood dealership won't even work on them, so i need to find a good place for parts as well.

    Thanks.

Is the "sleeper engine" an actual product name?

I dont mind spending some cash to get everything right on this one, as long as i remain reliable.

Right now it is stock, while its apart id like to get a good new impeller, and do anything to the pump that might help.

I read about the fuel liens and will be replacing all of them as the thread indicated.

Anything else I should be doing since I am starting with a blank slate?

    thanks for the help.

Thanks for the link. The sleeper looks interesting if it really is reliable on pump gas.

So is there anyone you can recommend to purchase a rebuild from, rather than SBT.

As far as the gas, I leave my skis at the lake and tend to ride long distances. Fueling on the water is mandatory.

I used to carry tanks with me on the boat when we carried the xp, but that is a pain and now that I bought the vas, this is will be a second ski for just playing around.

    Thanks for the help.
