PET-2500 Tachometer "Quick Start" Manual

The all new, totally waterproof, PET 2500 will monitor two-stroke single, twins and triple cylinders up to 20,000 rpm within +/-10 rpm accuracy. Ten major functions including: peak rpm memory, hour meter, stopwatch, e-z-mounting bracket and clip for inductive pick-up.
Quick start manual
Thank-you for the purchase of a” Pulse” Pet-2500 digital tachometer.
This is a "quick instruction sheet" only, please read the instruction manual for complete information.
The whole key to the operation of this tachometer is the Yellow mode button.
Changing the display for different motors.
To change the setting for example, from 2-stroke 2-cylinder (p22:44) to 2-stroke 3 cylinder (p23:46) press the yellow mode button until only numbers appear in the "upper half' of the display, such as p21 :42. To change to different types of motors press the blue "start/stop/select" button.
You will want it to read (p23:46) for 2-stroke 3 cylinder or (p22:44) for 2-stroke twins. "please see the instruction manual for a complete application list".
Using the basic tachometer
Once you have brought up a mode; for example (p23:46) "3 cylinder"
Using the directions above, press the yellow mode button until a black dot (cursor) appears above the stop-w,time,total,tempo,or max.
It is now ready for use.
Turning the tachometer off.
The tachometer has an "auto off" feature.
If you alter the programming cycle and the tach will not turn off automatically (after 1-2 minutes of inactivity),
Here is the shut off sequence.
Click on the yellow button, you will see the black dot (cursor) moving across the bottom of the tachometer. Continue clicking until the cursor is above "max", click again and the lower half of the screen will go blank. Now press the orange button.
Turning the tachometer on.
If you used the "auto off" mode, the tach will turn on automatically when triggered by engine rpm.
If you turned it off manually, press the orange button, then press the yellow button, as you click the yellow button you will see the cursor at the bottom clicking through the lap, split, stop w, etc. Continue clicking until the cursor is at "max". You will see a number such as 7550, this is your last recorded rpm. Now press the orange button, the tach will read "o". You are now ready for action.
Using the max rpm recall feature
Once you have made a run, the max rpm will show on the lower right. To clear this for another rpm run, press the orange button on the left.
You can also recall the maximum rpm recorded by pressing the yellow mode button until the little black mark is above max". The highest rpm will appear above "max". To clear this for the next run, press the orange reset button on the left side of the tach.
On certain motors, when the engine is first fired the max rpm may be extremely high and inaccurate, simply hit the orange reset button to clear.
Using the over-run feature. The pet-2500 has an over run feature, the last digit will blink if you exceed the pre-set rpm.
To change this number, press the yellow mode button until the over run amount comes up. Use the orange reset and the blue button to select any rpm you desire.
Using the stopwatch.
This tachometer is also a full function stopwatch, complete with lap and split times. It can be used like any other stopwatch or can be operated from the handlebars using the extension leads that come with each unit.
The right lead is for the start and stop and the left lead is for lap times. Once stopped, you can recall lap and split times using the green button.
Using the mount
You must use the mount to waterproof this backlight the unit for night-time testing.
Line up the "l" on the mount with the "l" on the back of the tachometer and turn clockwise, don't over tighten as breakage may occur. The backlight needs a 12 volt battery or similar power normally found on most machines.
Attach the alligator clip on the spark plug wire and run the other end through the holes on the left side of the tachometer.
You might have to experiment with different cylinders and inductive pick-up positioning to get accurate rpm readings.
Usually the best results are achieved by connecting the tachometer pick-up beside the spark plug cap. Occasionally you will have to relocate the pick-up closer to the ignition coil.
If you leave the tachometer on and\or the display gets dim, the battery must be replaced.
Use a CR 2032 lithium battery that is available at most retail stores for around $2.00.
The battery that comes with the unit is a "test" battery and will not have a long life. Buy one now...
