2004 4 tec supercharged very high idle

I have a ski that when started its idle is like 6000 rpm. Shut it right down, what could be the cause of this idle that seems to be at wot. The intake butterfly valve is closed all the way, no difference.

    Thanks,
    Jessie00721

Cracked intake manifold or major vacuum leak.

thanks, I will check that out a little closer, I had the intake off due to water in it so maybe I did not get it on right? IDK, Ill take a little more time to look, where else would a vacuum leak come from?

Check your re-install. That high of an idle would mean a considerable leak. If not, is it an rxp or x model? If you removed the internal ic (rxp), the rubber seal may not be fitted correctly or could be the clamp. Good luck!

take a can of carb cleaner and spray around the intake/head. When the idle changes you've found your vacuum leak...

it did have an intercooler, I put the clamp on it but I need to recheck it. Using carb cleaner would be impossible considering it revs to like 6000 rpm in 1 to 2 seconds.

Excellent idea. Don't get heavy handed.

Thanks for all the replies, I had the intake loose. Idles fine now. I do lack top end speed but I will post a new thread for that problem. Thanks Again.
