    Flywheel bolts broke...

    Guys,

Last weekend all my flywheel bolts broke off and destroyed my stator. I never noticed a strange sound or problems starting the ski. It's a 05 stock (only RIVA sc washers) RXP with 33 hours on it. Because it takes some time to preventive change them, I hoped that they would hold as long as I kept the ski stock... Now I just have to try and get the pieces of the bolts out off the crank gear, anyone got some good suggestions?

Yikes. Only the stator was damaged? Could have been worse.

Yes, those where mine thoughts to. At first when I only heard the starter turn free, I was afraid the sc went and took the timing chain.... So I feel a little lucky.

Ahhhh, trying to drill the bolt pieces out, that's gonna cost a lot of drills...

Last year my 06 sheared its bolts, I had a welder come to my house and welded little "nuggets" on the sheared bolts, then used a vise grip to remove them. It worked great.

That also crossed my mind, but I was afraid of the heat from welding could cause damage to the crank???

Was your drive pin broke as well, if so what did you do to get that one out?

Same thing, weld little "nuggets" building it out 1/4-1/2" until you can grab it with a vise grip. It all comes out real easy, no drilling, no damage to threads.

OK thanks. I'll drive to my friend's automotive shop, and let him do the welding trick...

My dad works for a company called partsmaster, he carries a welding rod that they call extractalloy, it's purpose is to remove broken bolts in engine blocks and such without damaging the threads. If you were close to me in the US i would get them out for you.
